Window Introduction

With windows, the user can move a cursor around the screen with a mouse to perform various operations like opening and closing a file, start and work with software applications, run more than one application at a time, transfer information between them, and organize the files we create.

Different Version of Window

Windows comes in various versions like Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

Earlier versions of Windows like Windows 2.0, Windows 3.0, Windows 3.1, and Windows 3.11 were not operating systems in themselves; they were just an extension of DOS. These versions just provide a graphical shell over the underlying text-based operating system DOS.

Why Windows Is Popular?

  • Some reasons why Windows is becoming popular day by day around the world:
  • It is easy to use, consistent GUI for virtually all programs.
  • It is capable of multitasking example running several programs simultaneously.
  • With Windows, you can communicate and exchange data between programs without transferring or copying files.
  • Because file and disk management activities are heavily used in day to day use of computers, Windows help you by not letting you close and open programs or use DOS commands to do standard file disk maintenance chores.
  • The window can run the application that offers high-quality output.
  • Many utility programs are included with Windows, such as a word processor and a drawing program.
  • Another good point about Windows is that it has a consistent user interface. A program's user interface is how you tell the program what you want to do. In the earlier years of MS-DOS, users had to learn a different method to interact with every program. Now Windows programs have a consistent interface, this means if a user is comfortable with one Windows application, then he/she can learn the new application easily.
