What is a graphics and its types?

This post help to learn what is computer graphics and its types. Graphics are visual presentations on some surface, such as a wall, canvas, computer screen, paper etc. Examples are photographs, drawings, maps, numbers or other images. Graphics often combine text, colour, sound and animation. Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and, more generally, the representation and manipulation of image data by a computer. It refers to any computer device or program that makes a computer capable of displaying and manipulating pictures. The term also refers to the images themselves.

What is a graphics and its types?

The development of computer graphics has made computers easier to interact with, and better for understanding and interpreting many types of data. Developments in computer graphics have had a profound impact on many types of media and have revolutionized animation, movies and the video game industry.

Images are typically produced by optical devices; such as cameras, mirrors, lenses, telescopes, microscopes, etc. The image is then digitized (Digital images include both vector images and raster images). Digitized imagery can be categorized into several different types: 2D, 3D, 4D and animated graphics. As technology has improved, 3D computer graphics have become more common, but 2D computer graphics are still widely used.

Simple definition of graphics:

Computer Graphics. The term Computer Graphics has several meanings :

(a) The representation and manipulation of pictorial data by computer.
(b) The various technologies used to create and manipulate such pictorial data.
(c) The image also produced.

Applications that support graphics require a powerful CPU and a large amount of memory. Many graphics applications-for example, computer animation systems-require more computing power than is available on personal computers and will run only on powerful workstations or specially designed graphics computers. In addition to the CPU and memory, graphics software requires a graphics monitor and support for one of the many graphics standards.

Graphics of computer graphics

1. 2D computer graphics
2. 3D computer graphics

2D Computer Graphics:

2D Computer Graphics are the generation of digital images using computer that have mostly two-dimensional models (x, y). 2D Graphics started in 1950s. 2D Computer Graphics are mainly used in applications that were originally developed upon traditional printing and drawing technologies.

3D Computer Graphics:

3D Computer Graphics: 3D Computer Graphics in contrast to 2D Computer Graphics are graphics that use a three-dimensional representation of geometric data that is stored in Computer for the purpose of performing calculations and rendering 2D images. Such images are used for real-time viewing as they have 3 axis (x, y, z).
